May your time at Somerset be a period of magnificent transformation.
It has been just over a year since this all began. One year since we closed on the property. One year since we began mapping out the site plan. And one year since we began the important conversations about what type of camp and culture we wanted to create.
Countless hours have been spent deliberating every little detail from what activities to offer, what to serve for dinner on sunday nights, and where to place each and every window. The list of things to do is endless, each decision is an exciting step forward, and no decision is too small.
We have to provide our campers with a place to live, a place to eat, and things to do. But, more importantly, we have to create a space where every young girl feels safe, and happy, and confident in both herself and her abilities. After all, that is our true mission. There are so many places where a young girl can swim, or play tennis, or ride a horse. And while those moments can certainly create lifelong memories they pale in comparison to the significance of the memories created from finding a true sense of community and belonging. That is why I fell in love with camp nearly 30 years ago and it is our one true wish for every camper and staff member that comes to Somerset.
Opening day is only nine months away, and for every one of our campers, those first few hours may feel a little foreign and strange. How could it not? But, if we do this right, from the comforts of the cabin, to the energy of the dining hall, to the warm embrace of the counselors, that special feeling will quickly set in. You’re home.
