HOOKED ON A FEELING

Now that folks have settled into their fall routines, our family outreach efforts for next summer are in full force. Every day we’re speaking with prospective families and, in many cases, traveling to meet face to face with them. There is a certain amount of hustle and persistence required in all of this. We need to make connections, we need to be available, and we never want to be overbearing. Finding that balance, which is different for everyone, is actually a pretty fun challenge.

More importantly, though, is just how exciting and rewarding it is to learn about what every unique family is seeking in a camp and to tell the Somerset story. And finding that connection with a family, one that typically manifests itself in the face of an eager child, is such an amazing moment. As we talk about the program, the bunk, the food, and the excitement of being part of our year one family, we oftentimes see the light in a young girl’s eyes and there is no better feeling than that.

It’s the same light we have in our eyes, plus a heart and mind filled with endless hopes, dreams, and possibilities about what camp will bring to each and every camper. Who will they meet? What will they learn to do? How will their lives be changed forever? An incredibly lucky group of girls will soon find out. And two incredibly lucky directors too.
